The process of creation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) Nizhny Tagil was stepwise. The Bureau of commodity expertise "Tagilekspertiza" was created in 1972 as a subdivision of the Ural Chamber of Commerce, which is provided the commodity expertise and services of assessment of damages. After a while it became necessary to expand the range of services of "Tagilekspertizy", and the leadership of the Ural CCI decided to open a representative office in Nizhny Tagil. In January 1992 the representative office was renamed to the Department of the Ural CCI.

Chamber of Commerce and Industry Nizhny Tagil was registered on November 14, 1996 as an independent territorial unit of Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation. In this day the Statute of CCI Nizhny Tagil was registered in the Ministry of Justice too. But earlier, a general meeting of founding members of the Chamber of Commerce from among the entrepreneurs and business leaders took place on September 17, 1996. The project of the Statute was passed and governing, executive, supervisory bodies were elected. Membership base consisted of 15 companies.

In March 2006 Boris Yakovlevich Sokolov was elected as the Chairman of the Board and the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Nizhny Tagil.

In March 2011 Boris Ya. Sokolov was re-elected by unanimous decision of the general meeting of members of the CCI Nizhny Tagil

Today CCI Nizhny Tagil combines 260 businesses of various forms of ownership. Among them there are different city-forming enterprises as JSC «NTMK», JSC «NPK» Uralvagonzavod», LLC «NTZMK», JSC «Uralchimplast», Chemical factory «Planta» and others. Also there are medium and small enterprises, individual entrepreneurs, banks, education institutions as members of CCI.

Enterprises-members of CCI are represented practically all industries: metallurgy, mechanical engineering, chemical and extractive industries, wood processing and the construction industry, as well as trade and the services sector. Committees and guilds (public formations) were created and are working today at CCI.
